Was the use of the guillotine a reflection of Enlightenment ideals?

Yes. The idea of the guillotine was that everyone who was put to death would get the same punishment. Before that, nobility were beheaded whereas common people were hanged. This egalitarian idea was I think a reflection of enlightenment ideas.
