How can i keep my bedroom cool?

I live in a small apartment, i have 1 bedroom and we have an a/c running in the livingroom...but it doesn't go into the bedroom it's been 33 degrees where i live and when i walk into my bedroom to go to bed the hot air in there just hits me in the face...it is so hot in there...i am having a hard time sleeping at night, i have two fans running in there but nothing helps. I have 2 windows http://www.hopechurch-madison.com/files/u2/old_windows.jpg (more like the 2nd, but less old looking) - Should i open the windows (i can only open 1 btw - the other wont open) or leave them shut....i can't put an a/c in there because we only have 1 - the curtains i have are a see through white curtain i don't know if thats the problem or what...the sun does shine in the room ... should i change the curtains? leave a window open? and if i was to open a window can i still use the fans? thanks.
