I am using a nettipot filled with salt water and iodine to irigate my nose. Will it damage my sense of smell?

As a home remedy for a sinus infection, I was told by a friend to add two drops of iodine into the salt water and rinse about 4 times a day. I have done that for about two days and amazingly, it is helping me alot. But I notice that I still can't smell anything.No scents are going to my nose. Now mind you, I still clogged alittle but I just thought I should just put this question out to the abyss and see if anyone knows anything. Is the iodine damaging my smelling senses? Is it a good idea to do this?
