Should America's government censor video game releases?

Its actually not just the government, but the console companies as well. Nintendo, Sony, And Microsoft dont allow AO rated games for their american consoles. While I do agree with the censorship to a point, like the rating system, I find it kind of ironic that on national television programs there is just as much violence and gore if not more-so than in video games. I personally believe that ultimatley it is the parents responsibility to moniter the video games their child is playing. And no violent games DO NOT spawn violent kids. ow many serial killers are out there now as opposed to the years before the atari 2600 came out?
